Day Trip

Wynn and I went on our first outing from Florence today. And, it was an adventure. We went to Fiesole which is a suburb north of Florence. It sits on a mountain, so there are beautiful views of Florence that we almost missed several times. It started this morning when we missed the train that we had planned on taking. Luckily, we were able to take the next one that left 2 hours later. Actually, it wasn't so lucky, because we should've taken a bus instead of the train. When we got off of the train, we really had no idea where we were. It turns out, we were in Caldine. The train station was Fiesole-Caldine but drops you off in Caldine which is several miles down the mountain from Fiesole. So, we went looking for a map with no luck. We went to an Esso station where the guys spoke little English and had a nude calendar on the wall, and they told us we needed to take a bus to Fiesole. The man at the stand where you buy a bus ticket was extremely unhelpful. He did tell us, though, that buses don't come very often. Then he packed up his stuff and drove off. We waited and waited for the bus. Several buses came, but they weren't the one we needed. Twice we saw the one we needed, and it just drove right on by even with Wynn in the street flagging him down. Finally, we got on the bus and made it to Fiesole., which we found out on the way back is about a 20 minute drive from Florence. However, it took us about 5 hours. Anyway, here are some pics of our day.

At the top of the mountain, there was a convent that we walked around in. It was pretty neat.
And here is a picture Wynn took of the bus driver after he dropped us off in Fiesole. No wonder buses don't come around often.
